All our youth outreach projects incorporate key water concepts known as The Big Water Questions. Originally developed as festival outcomes by children’s water festival steering committees in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, the original six questions were expanded to nine by Experiential EE.
While a few questions have specific answers — for example, What is the water cycle? – most questions require students to think more deeply. The goal is for students to understand all questions, formulate logical answers, and become active discoverers.
- Why is water so important to life?
- How do all living things depend on each other?
- What is the water cycle?
- What is a watershed?
- Where does my drinking water come from?
- Where does my wastewater go?
- What makes water dirty?
- How much water does my family use each day?
- Who are the other water users in our society?
- Who owns our water?
- How can I protect our water?
