Presenters at the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Children’s Water Festival are primarily adult professionals representing dozens of water-related organizations. Most have an outreach component to their jobs and are available to speak on a variety of topics to all grade levels. We also seek out the high school students as presenters and volunteers.
Activities are included in the festival program only if they address at least one of our water-related topic areas and they are hands-on!
Presenters submit multiple choice questions and answers as part of our Pre- and Post-festival Student Surveys to ensure that students absorb critical activity information – and to provide feedback to the presenter.
All activities address multiple New Mexico Science Standards and Benchmarks for the fourth grade. They also address many science standards for the 3rd and 5th grades as well as standards in other subjects.

The festival is held over two days and consists of a program of activities that includes near two dozen activities are presented each day.
All activities are 30 minutes in length and each class attends five activities. The goal is for each class to attend one activity in each topic area.
Activities cover one or more of these topic areas:
- Web of life
- General hydrology and the water cycle
- Watershed/water quality
- Water conservation
- Water and our society/culture
