Festival Volunteer Opportunities

Why volunteer?
Event and volunteer details

By volunteering you will…

  • spend a fun day or two helping our community’s children learn what they can do to protect and conserve water.
  • be a part of an initiative that will help our community for generations to come.
  • meet new people who are interested in helping to further the mission of the Children’s Water Festival.
  • learn more about our community’s water resources.

Festival mission

The mission of each festival is to introduce as many fourth grade students and teachers as we can each year to new ideas, options and solutions so they will conserve and protect water for the future and to lay the foundation for further learning.

Since 1999, the festival has educated over 10,000 4th graders in Albuquerque and 1,300 in Rio Rancho — 2,000 of whom were eligible to vote in the 2008 elections!

Presenters and volunteers donate about 1,500 hours each year.  Without our volunteers, this event couldn’t happen!

Teacher, Student and Volunteer Comments

I cannot express how well-run this festival was.  The kids enjoyed it thoroughly and I, the teacher, was extremely pleased that I didn't have to spend much time managing behavior.  Our guide (Bill) was personable, answered questions, and seemed to enjoy being there.  The kids (and adults) walked away with a vast amount of new knowledge.  I am so grateful to have had this experience and hope to come back in the future! – teacher

I learned about water flow and that in 2009 we will be drinking Rio Grande River water. – student
I had the most fun playing the game where we were saving water for the planet to survive. – student
Thanks very much for all the (obviously!) hard work you put into the Water Festival.  Even though it was my first visit to the water festival, everything was so well prepared and organized, it was very easy to get into the rhythm of things.  This was a great experience -- you'll definitely see me as a volunteer again next year! -- Thomas Hochman, UPS Store 4275
